Knuckleheads Snow Board Beanie

Knuckleheads is the place to go for fierce boy-gear with a punk twist.  The Snow Board Beanie is soft and comfy, while preserving an edgy look for boys that express disdain for “baby” hats.  This hat has the signature Knuckleheads label on the front, the little dude with spiky hair, and a subtly boyish color.

We can’t promise he’ll keep it on in the midst of snowball wars and snow fort sieges, but at least while it’s on his head, he’ll be cozy and warm.

Eli’s Lids Snowboarder Lid

Eli's Lids Snowboarder Lid

Eli’s Lids were born of necessity, a necessity that we’re pretty much here to celebrate with Boys Fashion Month.  Sick of pastel blues and puppies, Kara-Noel started from the top and developed her own line of boys headwear built around her family’s own skate/surfer stylings.  We are ALL about mom’s taking the reins and doing their own thing with their kid’s clothing.  We’ve got an interview with Kara-Noel scheduled for later this week to tell yall a bit more of her story, and the story behind her lids.

Get a head start on a your fall/winter shopping with a little help from Eli’s Lids- use code PETITVOGUE to save 25% until 11/15!

Boys’ Fashion Trends 2010

Boys’ fashion has had a lot of catching up to do with the plethora options that are available for our little girls, but in the last couple of years we’ve seen the offerings broaden and really come into their own.  No longer are we bound to pastel blues and puppies!  Really, a lot of what we’re seeing lately is what we’re loving about girls fashion these days- heavily vintage influenced style with a modern twist.  Most importantly the trends we’re highlighting here are ones that let boys be boys, without sacrificing style.

Our top 5 boys fashion trends of 2010

Snap Front Pattern Western Shirt with Constrasting Yolks

Patterned snap and button down shirts with contrasting yolk

We’ve seen these popping up EVERYWHERE!  Every label seems to have their own take on this classic look for boys.  The contrasting yolk lends funky style to an otherwise clean cut shirt.  Patterns like diamonds, bold polka dots, and tonal stripes are the order of the day, with patch pockets and snaps also make the rounds for easy on and off.

Boys Snowboarder Hat

Stylish headgear- Snowboarder hats and fedoras

The number of options for headwear for men has expanded significantly over the past few years, and in turn has trickled down into boys’ fashion as well.  We’re seeing a lot of military inspired hats, classic fedoras, and skater style snowboarder hats.  As we all know boys have much fewer options for accessorizing than girls, so we have to make each one count!

Boys Varsity Jacket and Bomber

Varsity Jackets and Bombers

Another great throwback to the timeless look that embodies boys and all the rough and tumble madness that they carry with them every day.  Snaps, zippers, leather accents, patches- they offer endless opportunities for unique embellishments that give each piece as much individual personality as the boys who wear them.

Boys Sneakers Vintage Retro Style

Sneakers

They come in many styles and shapes and sizes, and they are everywhere!  Taking inspiration from the classic Nike and Converse hi-top style from years past, this new breed of sneakers is multiplying in new varieties every day.  Like hats, the right pair of sneakers can add some whimsy to a formal outfit that takes itself too seriously, fit right in with a skater style outfit, or simply be a staple of you boys’ wardrobe.

Boys denim pants, rolled cuffs

Quality Denim- Rolled Cuffs

Being a consummate denim addict, I am loving the selection available for boys these days.  As boys’ fashion lines have expanded to cover more and more different styles, you’re able to get denim the way you want it.  Rolled cuffs are particularly popular lately as the vintage revival continues to grow in strength and variety.

White Skully Chic hair bow by Ribbons of Faith

Ribbons of Faith white skull hair bow

With the new school year beginning soon and all of the new outfits that entails, now is the perfect time to start accessorizing!  A set of accessories can keep new outfits feeling fresh, or breath new life into some old favorites.  So even if you’re on a tight budget when it comes to back-to-school shopping this year you can still help your little ones look fab :)

With that in mind, we’re going to start from the top:  bringing a bit of piratey-punk influence to the classic white hair ribbon, Ribbons of Faith was kind enough to send us this sample from her Etsy collection.  Her work spans the range from delicate and sweet to glam-punk, so there’s really something for everyone who’s looking for a delightfully unique and handmade fashion accessory.

We were very impressed with the quality of construction, so we put it to the test out into the windy northern reaches of Michigan for a day at the beach.  It stayed in place in thick curly hair and remained totally fab the whole time we were out!  As for the look…well we’ll let the photos tell the story of how this simple bow added a splash of attitude to an otherwise cozy-cottage style.

Read on below the photos for your chance to win an item of your choice from the Ribbons of Faith shop!

Want to win one for yourself or a little girl you know?  We are very happy to offer you the chance to choose an item from Ribbons of Faith!  Leave a comment telling us what you’d choose if you won, along with your email address.  Winner will be chosen via Random.org on Monday, August 30th, at noon, and will be notified via email.  Winner will have 48 hours to respond, or else a new winner will be drawn.

Congratulations Alisha, Random.org drew #18, that’s you!

Sylvestre cotten sleeveless shirt by KZA

Sylvestre Cotton Sleeveless ShirtConsider this the first wave of the French Invasion here at petit vogue.  We have been enjoying many European designers of late, and KZA certainly delivers the goods as well.  We’re loving the indie look with this boys’ shirt, as the plaidy print is so NOT what you would expect for a light summer shirt.  They recommend pairing it with linen shorts, which we agree with.

A word of caution: their website is primarily French, but has an English version available.  However, the translation is…interesting at times.  We’ll let you experience that for yourselves though, happy hunting!

Hula Mula Fall 2010 line sneak peek

knuckleheads11272009027c

Hula Mula (birthed from the same brilliant mind as Knuckleheads) has been kind enough to share a preview of their SMASHING fall 2010 line with the world, and we in turn will make sure that we get the word out!    Hula Mula brings the urban/punk/adorable stylings from our favorite Knuckleheads lines and transposes them into girls’ clothing bedecked with stripes, argyle, and a healthy dose of ruffled skirts.  We’re already in love with the sheer versatility and classic urban chic found in this line.  The palette doesn’t stray too far from their staple black, white, and pink mantra, and that’s just fine by us.  While we could (and would love to) go on forever, a picture is worth a thousand words, so jump over to their blog and enjoy!

Gage Sweater by Knuckleheads

knuckleheads-cardiganWe’re kind of crazy for cardigans.  What we have here is a sweet little retro cardigan for the aspiring  indie rock star, perfect for sporting on his path to fame.  The Gage sweater by Knuckleheads brings together the classic striped cardigan look and adds a twist with zippered pockets.  Sure to be a classic for your little collector who needs to keep his pocket treasures like itty-bitty pinecones and pebbles from flying out while on his latest adventure.
